How today’s technology allows for patients to enjoy same-day restorations such as dental crowns
- Posted on: Mar 30 2019
All areas of the medical field are growing by leaps and bounds with the continued advancements in technology, including dentistry. At DeStefano Dentistry, we have reinvested into our practice to provide patients with solutions that can be used to improve the health, appearance, and functionality of their smiles. When patients are in need of dental crowns and other restorations, they can have them completed and placed in the same appointment, while other dental practices may require weeks for completion.
Why use dental crowns?
Dental crowns are a popular dental restoration that can be used in restoring the smile. Also known as a cap, dental crowns cover the exposed portion of the tooth above the gum line. This may be done for several reasons. Sometimes, patients use a dental crown when a tooth has a large filling or has undergone root canal therapy. This is because it provides extra strength and protection to keep the tooth from breaking. Other times, a dental crown may be fabricated for a patient to place over the abutment of a dental implant to replace a single missing tooth. Dental crowns are incredibly versatile and can be a wonderful asset for patients.
What to expect during my appointment
If you are having a dental crown placed over an existing tooth, treatment is fast, simple, and easy. The dentist will prepare the tooth by removing a portion of the enamel around all sides. Then, digital impressions are taken and sent off to the milling machine, which creates a precision restoration from a block of porcelain in less than 20 minutes. The crown is then bonded onto the tooth at the same appointment.
