Obtaining a Single Visit Dental Crown
- Posted on: Oct 15 2018
At DeStefano Dentistry, patients in the community of Pittsford, NY are often worried about the time it takes to obtain traditional restorations such as dental crowns. In a conventional dental practice, dental crowns may require a few weeks of time and more than one appointment. This is because the tooth has to be prepared with the removal of natural tooth enamel, impressions need to be made, and a dental ceramist states away may be in charge of fabricating the new restoration before it is mailed back to the dental practice. However, with the use of CEREC technology, patients can enjoy same-day repairs.
What is a dental crown?
Dr. Thomas J. DeStafano is a dentist who describes dental crowns as porcelain “caps” that are bonded to cover the entire tooth structure. These restorations provide an extra layer of protection for teeth that may have been damaged. Additionally, crowns are often fabricated to place over the abutment of a dental implant to act as a false tooth. This is a wonderful replacement option for patients who are seeking a permanent repair after tooth loss. Dental crowns are made of ceramic and are fabricated to match the existing teeth for seamless integration into the smile. Aesthetics is extremely important to our team of professionals, ensuring patients look and feel their best after dental work is complete. Dental crowns are versatile, affordable, and durable, making them one of the most appropriate restorations for many of our patients.
How are CEREC crowns created?
Dr. Thomas J. DeStefano prepares the natural tooth by removing a portion of the tooth’s structure. Then, digitized impressions are processed through the CAD/CAM software, and the dental crown is milled out of a block of porcelain right in the dental office. The entire process takes less than an hour and the milled restoration is completed while patients wait comfortably in the dental chair.
